My students need alternative seating to create a relaxed, accommodating and supportive classroom environment where they can feel calm and comfortable in their learning. Physical activity is directly correlated with higher academic focus.
My students are full of life, ready to learn, and excited to be challenged. They love to have fun and movement is an important part of our day! They enter the classroom with very different backgrounds and have a variety of learning styles and differentiated seating is already a norm in our classroom.
I love giving students an opportunity everyday to experience success and instill a love of learning while providing the accommodations that they need.
Every child is different and teaching them to understand their learning needs and the needs of their friends is integrated into my classroom.
In our classroom students love to have their own choices of where to work throughout the day. They choose to sit at lowered tables, stand at taller tables, or sit on crates. I would love to offer more options especially for my students who need more motion and movement throughout the day. I have experienced the benefit of how rocker chairs and wobble stools have helped students who need to wiggle. I am asking for a variety of flexible seating options: wobble stools and cushions, stadium seats, and floor cushions that research has supported to contribute to better attention/focus, less restlessness, and increased participation.
Allowing children some control over where they sit turns them into problem solvers who can identify how they’re feeling and choose what works best for them.
Kids aren’t meant to sit still all day long. They need motion, movement and choice and this will help meet this need. They will love school and feel successful at an early age!!
