My students need flexible seating options in the classroom to ensure they have the ability to choose the most comfortable way for them to actively engage and focus on learning!
My two classes consist of 34 energetic, curious, creative, and hard-working kids. My students are very engaged and enthusiastic learners who come in every day wanting to explore and grow!
My fourth and fifth grade classes have a strong sense of community founded on the premise of building each other up with kindness, support, and understanding.
A key part of our daily classroom routine we use to build that community is reading. As a class, we delve into countless books together each year to better understand ourselves, each other, and the world in which we all live. We challenge our thinking, broaden our knowledge, and foster empathy while learning how to support others.
My Project
Flexible seating would be a great addition to our classroom community! Having options for students to explore will help them better understand themselves as a learner. The students will have five different seating options that will allow them to actively move their bodies during indoor independent, group work, and reading times. These are traditional school chairs, wiggle seat toppers for chairs, wiggle stools, floor pillows, and stay in place ball chairs.
Expanding the variety of options within the classroom will provide each child an opportunity to take initiative and decide what is most beneficial for their learning.
In my experience, engagement, focus, and enthusiasm all improve when students are able to integrate physical activity in the classroom. I believe that giving students options in their learning environment helps them grow to better understand themselves as a learner. Thank you for helping us wiggle our way to success!
