My Students

Unique and willingness to learn are two words that describe my students. Currently, I am a COTA/L at an elementary school working with a variety of students with a wide range of disabilities.

The main problem that I seem to be coming across is "sensory needs" of 95% of my students.

These students crave movement, various types of sitting options while in the classroom and fidget toys. These students have impressed me with their ability to try and adapt the best that they can with limited resources to help meet their needs.

My Project

The project I am working on is to improve my students attention in the general education setting while meeting their needs simultaneously. These items will also improve their ability to control their body meanwhile providing them with a variety of strategies to improve their attention independently to teach life long strategies. Wiggle cushions and various types of sitting arrangements allows them to control their body during reading time, and long periods of having to remain seated. Sensory bins are an important part of relaxation and allowing students to control their sensory systems.

These kids work so hard and diligent every single day and I am trying my best to help meet their needs.
