I am a Special Education Teacher in a low-income/high poverty school with nearly 700 students in grades Pre-K to 6th. Eighty-four percent are high needs. Fifty-eight percent of our students are economically disadvantaged, thirty-four percent are students with disabilities and forty-eight percent are English language learners. Our school houses numerous programs for children with Autism. As you can see we are a community of diverse learners.
My students, who are all diagnosed with autism, are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
They are very kind, caring, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things exciting and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that will help them believe in themselves and be successful.
My Project
Alternative seating has been proven to assist children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder improve in-seat behavior and assists them with focusing and completing tasks. For these reasons, I am asking for flexible seating options for my students.
Having these wobble chairs and stress ball chairs will mean that all of my students will have seating options that will improve their on-task time, help them remain calm when sensory overload sets in and decrease meltdowns.

They are safe, stable chairs with rounded bases that allow students a little movement without tipping over. Gaiam Kids Balance Ball Chairs are kid-sized seats for improving concentration & focus.
