Students in this classroom are energetic, multi-lingual, culturally diverse and completely unique. Each one comes with their own creative sense of being. They arrive with a sense of who they want to be and what they want to learn. We dance, sing, read, write, calculate, wonder, build, play, laugh and love with each other.
Even though we are a school with a very high poverty rate, these children thrive, strive for greatness and are very successful.
Our school's needs are diverse. We have the highest percentage of English language learners in the district along with all of the other letters that society chooses to label us with. But we rise above all of that and learn.
My Project
Children have a hard time sitting and sustaining their attention without movement. Having options that allow for movement while still learning increases brain activity as well as stamina and muscle core strength. These K'Motion Stools will give my students options for acceptable movement practices while they are learning within the classroom.
Having the ability to choose a seating option that suits their learning and movement style opens up opportunities for learning academics as well as advocating for their own needs.
Students who feel comfortable and cared for want to do better and find it easier to learn in school. While writing, reading, math or core subjects, students get wiggly. They try to rock on a chair, stool, or bean bag which are all unsafe. These stools will give an option to wiggling without being unsafe or disrupting the class.
