Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low-income/high poverty area. Although the majority of them face daily challenges to meet their basic needs, they are enthusiastic, creative, and eager to learn. They enjoy working together to become the best they can be. They are full of questions and great ideas.

My students have big dreams but many of them come from low socioeconomic homes with little access to technology beyond a cell phone. Most do not have internet access at home. Their parents often work two or three jobs to make ends met so there may not be anyone at home to help with school work. In addition, most of the students receive breakfast and reduced or free lunches at school. The school also provides free uniforms to those who need it. My students have the courage to succeed but they need access to twenty-first century technology to develop the skills they need.
My Project
My fourth grade students love to move. Balance chairs help my students keep their minds focused on the material while their bodies can be moving. Balance chairs not only improve focus they also help with posture.
Evidence shows that the brain and the body work together while learning and students need a certain amount of sensory feedback in order to stay focused.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to sit. Balance chairs provide sensory stimulation that helps them focus. This evidenced-based flexible seating support adapts to student learning styles and help students feel calm, capable, and focused.
