This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 24 wonderful second grader students who live in the heart of San Jose. They are energetic, engaged, and love exploring the world around them. They love learning and try really hard to achieve in academics.

My students love to learn and be engaged with their class surroundings, but also need to wiggle!

My school is a TK through 3rd-grade site, making it a school site with high academic and social-emotional needs. I teach at a school where 87% of students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, and 69% are English Language Learners. Additionally, our school is an inclusion school, with about 55 special education students intermixed within our general education classrooms.

My Project

At school, students are expected to sit all day and be engaged in their learning. However, sitting can be a hard task for students to do! Students get the wiggles and sometimes movement breaks, Go Noodles, and recess aren't enough to refocus their energy.

Students need to be comfortable in order to learn and stay engaged.

This comfort looks different for each student. Flexible seating options in my classroom would allow my students to choose an option other than the regular classroom chair and regular student desks.

Students should have the option to learn in a seating arrangement that is conducive to their learning style. These seating options and low table will provide my students with the opportunity to work low and in comfort.
