Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are first graders at an International Baccalaureate school. As we inquire into different topics, learn new math skills, and develop as readers, the overarching goal is for my students to become 21st century learners. As 21st century learners, my students need the ability to move and learn in their element.
Giving tools to my students to have in their "toolbox" to help them focus is a self-awareness skill for 1st graders!
This is a key skill for students to practice as they interact with each other. Learning about ways we can help our bodies focus and move helps my curious learners.
Having many options of seating in my classroom will help students gain independence and learn how they can help themselves focus and learn.
My Project
When my students work at the guided reading table, I want my kiddos to focus on the task at hand. My students need to move, but I also want them to focus. Enter: wobble chairs! These chairs are perfect for students to wiggle a little bit, but they can also stay focused and read. We have 4 already in our classroom and we love them! We would love 6 more to go around the reading table. The chair bands would be really helpful to go around each chair and have students get out any energy they have by kicking and bouncing on the chair band.
Having these tools in our classroom will increase focus and decrease inattentive behaviors: a win-win!
