Second grade is filled with different abilities, interests, and goals. Every student is unique in their own way based on their culture, experiences, and strengths that they bring into my classroom. Some of my students come from high poverty and/or single parent homes and have lived through various experiences that I can't begin to imagine. My students enjoy the structured flexibility in the classroom because they receive what they need to succeed. They love to move around throughout the day, whether that be a dance break, brain break, or choosing where they would like to sit.
Being a Title 1 school, our students need not only stability, but their voice heard.
We do this by giving students choices and through culturally relevant instruction. We are constantly putting our students at the forefront of what and how we teach. Our students are truly the change we wish to see in the world, and we infuse that sentiment in our teaching.
My Project
Kore Wobble chairs would be so beneficial to my classroom. Students would be able to choose to sit in one of these stools when they feel like they need to move around. This will increase focus and engagement in their academic activities in whole group and individual instruction. It will also give my students voice and choice in deciding what they need to self-regulate. This unique seating option allows my students to release their energy in a productive and safe way in the classroom without being a distraction to others. My students love to move around, and the wobble chairs will allow them to move while engaging in curriculum.
