Wiggle Wobble While Learning to Read and Speak

Help me give my students the opportunity to be themselves by being able to wobble all they want in the LakeShore Wobble chairs. They can move freely while in small group reading intervention and speech language therapy sessions.

My Project

I provide services to both regular education and special education students. Speaking and Reading are two of the three most important skills an individual needs in order to be successful in life. I try to make it fun for all but especially for the kids who cannot learn as easily as the average kiddo for whatever reason. In rural West Virginia kids have less access than kids in other more populated areas.

Money is tight everywhere, having 3 teenagers and one in college, plus add on the huge monthly payment for special reading instruction 3 hours a week for my one son who has auditory processing disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia and vision problems.

My goal is to provide instruction for kids like my son where they can have special tools, like the wobble chairs, that allows the fidgeting and moving about this is often not possible in a large classroom. The sensory stickers on the table are a miracle invention because these kids just need to move and they rub them with their hands and even arms sometimes but it allows them to regain focus to the tasks we are completing at the table, or near the table. Kids who have learning difficulties expend more mental and physical energy than the average kid because they are trying so hard to be like the other kids. They know they are different. Many of the kids I work with have shared their feelings about reading and just being in school. “School sucks, it’s so hard”, “I can’t sit still, I have to move”, “I’m stupid”, “I can’t do anything right”, “why me?” Are just some of the things kids and my own son have told me.

The chairs also build core muscle strength and spatial awareness. Please help me make my classroom AWESOME!
