My Students

I have the privilege of teaching very energetic and creative 5-6 year old students. My colleague and I piloted a project based learning curriculum for our district. It was such a success that we are extending it to all of our kindergarten classes at our school.

One thing we found was that even though we had phenomenal results from the cross curricular learning that happened we needed more space.

Kindergarten students are wigglers and learn best when allowed to move.

My Project

Flexible seating allows our students to choose the learning environment that is best for them. During learning rotation work time the students can choose a spot that works the best for them. Currently there is really no other place for them to work other than traditional tables and chairs in our classroom.

When the students are given the opportunity to choose their own work space and materials to use whether it be mats, bounce bands, or pillows they are more engaged in their learning.

By removing some furniture and adding flexible seating choices like balance balls, I just know our learning will soar!
