Do you know what it's like to have A.D.H.D.? Many of my third graders do! They have trouble completing classroom assignments because they are often out of their chairs completely... twirling, skipping, squirming, you name it!
I have twelve students this year, 8 boys and 4 girls.
All are from low-income housing and all qualify for free breakfast and lunch at school. All are minority students and many have experienced trauma.
Despite coming from challenging backgrounds, they all have a desire to succeed. Students in my room are responsible and determined.
Our school is one of many in an urban district, with students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Our budget is often very low for supplies and necessary items to run a classroom and items are often purchased with teachers' own paychecks.
My Project
I envision using these wobble cushions in order to participate in daily lessons without distracting their classmates. They will allow my students to move and flex without leaving their seats! When their hyperactivity is emitted in a positive manner, they will be more engaged in classroom activities.
"If we succeed in giving the love of learning, the learning itself is sure to follow." - John Lubbock
Donations toward this project will help improve my classroom and change students' lives for the better.
These wobble cushions can be shared among the class for students struggling with hyperactivity throughout the day. They will help students not see their disability as something of a hindrance, but something that can be accommodated and used as an advantage with the right resources!
