My students need active stools, lap desks, and wobble cushions to help them focus on their work by allowing them the freedom to wiggle that a standard chair limits.
I teach first grade and my classroom is full of 18 hard working, unique learners. We are a Title I school where 80% of our PreK-3rd grade students are eligible for free or reduced lunches. Being a Title I school, I have every kind of learner in my room.
Among those learners are the wigglers.
These kids need to move to improve their focus. I presently have tables and chairs. However, the chairs are rather tall and most of my students cannot reach the floor when seated.
My Project
I believe that students who can wiggle while they learn have greater focus. The learning stools and other requested items will allow my students to get out that extra energy that is preventing them from focusing!
Flexible seating allows them the opportunity to choose what works best for them.
It lets them take control of their learning environment. I let them sit around the room for multiple activities and right now they only have the carpet area or tile. They need more options! The learning stools will allow them to wiggle at their desks. The lap desks and floor tables will let those who want to sit on the floor have a place to complete their work! The wobble cushions will help those who just need a small change.
