Help me give my students flexible seating in my classroom. Many students need the option for seating that will allow them to move. Wobble stools will give them the option to move, while still seated at their desk.
We are a truly diverse school. No one demographic really stands out. We also come from a greatly varied economic community.
My classroom is a room that focuses on teaching students to love learning.
By providing students opportunities to direct their learning, we get into the fun of learning.
Likewise, I teach a very diverse group of learning styles. In teaching students who have various needs, I constantly strive to meet the needs of those learners in innovative ways. It is my belief that the most important need in the classroom, is to build relationships and to focus on the individual needs of the classroom.
My classroom is personal. Learning can be loud, it can be sloppy, and it can be fun. Organized chaos is where students learn best.
My Project
I am focusing on trying to create flexible seating in my classroom. Students struggle to work effectively and pay attention. If we take a look at classrooms over the past 70 years, we are seeing the same type of learning environments, year after year. The world is changing, yet our classrooms are remaining much the same. Revitalizing space is a straightforward way to let students exercise choice in the learning environment and find academic success on their own terms.
It is my hope that using flexible seating options, students can find success in their education that will carry on for years to come.
A 2012 study from the University of Minnesota found that students participated 48 percent more in discussions in a classroom with collaborative group seating versus traditional lecture-style seating, and also improved their performance on standardized tests.
My mission statement since college has been, "To help students grow to have a love of learning." By providing an environment that allows student students to have the flexibility that they need to be comfortable in their learning, I am moving toward my goal of fulfilling my mission.
