Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach special education in a high-poverty Title I school, the majority of students in my school receive free or reduced-price lunch. All of my students struggle with some form of a disability, including autism, ADHD, emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and mild/moderate intellectual disabilities.
Even though my students have hardships and obstacles, they come to school each day with the motivation to learn and a smile on their face.
I would love for my students to leave my classroom with wonderful coping mechanisms, increased education, social-emotional awareness, and a positive outlook.
My Project
My students have been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, as well as many other disabilities. All of these disabilities have one thing in common, they absolutely need to move!
These bouncy balls will give my students the opportunity to wiggle while they are learning.
They will provide a physical challenge and opportunity to release energy while doing their work. Studies have shown that bouncy balls can improve brain function and concentration. Studies have also shown that the students are more attentive due to the fact that the kids are able to burn off excess energy by bouncing or moving. My students absolutely need to move throughout the day in order to be successful.
