My Students

I have students from ages 13- 18 and teach 7th through 12th grades. These kids come from a rural area encompassing 5 small towns into one school district. We are PreK-12 in one building. The students here are able to interact with each other from the age of 3 to 18. The older students are role models for the younger ones and many know each other which makes for a very friendly school. We do activities with our elementary to promote wellness and relationships.

They have an energy that is contagious.

Each one of them brings something to our school. I have been teaching for 30 years and love coming to work every day due to our students. Their eagerness to learn new things is catchy. Being able to expose our students to new and fun things gets energy flowing that is hard to suppress.

My Project

Flexible seating is an opportunity for a student that has extra energy and needs movement to be able to focus. It gives them a way to exert extra energy so they can focus and be successful in the classroom. Not all students need flexible seating, but with this project, we would be able to offer the option for those that might or might not need it.

Flexible seating can enhance my classes where students tend to be in their seats more often than not.

They can choose the option of normal seating or flexible seats depending on what they are feeling like at that time of the day. Also depending on the day, it could be the student that normally needs the seating or maybe just a student that is feeling the need to move.
