Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an inner city school in Providence, Rhode Island. I teach 125 students each day in my grade 6 Social Studies classes. I have a diverse population of students which includes Special Education and English Language Learners (some which are newcomers to the country). Most of my students receive either free or reduced-priced lunch. I try to make a print-rich, bright & colorful classroom for my students. I want them to feel happy and comfortable when they enter my classroom and know that they are able to gather information from various resources around the classroom.
My Project
Recently I received 4 sensory bounce cushions for my classroom and I realize how much they help my students stay focused in class. Many of my students suffer from ADHD/ADD, sensory overload and Anxiety disorders. These students often have trouble organizing the information they get from their senses & experience sensory overload, which can make basic activities stressful, like sitting in class for 54 minutes at a time.
Wiggle bounce cushions are the sensory tools that I need in my class to help my students focus on their daily learning.
These seat cushions will allow my students to receive the sensory stimulation they need to release anxiety and help calm them to focus on daily tasks.
