Help me give my students Flex-Space Balance Ball Seat that will allow them to wiggle while they work. Students with Autism tend to move about a great deal which takes their focus off of their work.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a special education, resource teacher. I service K-2 grade students. My students all have IEPs (Individual Education Plans). Some need extra assistance in reading, math, and handwriting. All areas are a struggle for many of my students in different ways. My students are in a low-income level area and anything that I can do to help them succeed I will try to do. I love teaching students who are eager to learn but struggle with doing so. Many of my students shy away from completing their work because they struggle with reading, writing, and math. If my students are not able to accomplish basic writing, reading and math concepts, they will shut down and not attempt to complete any assignment given.
My Project
Working with students with Autism can be a challenging task helping them remain focused on the assignment at hand when they have the wiggles and are not focused on their work.
Being able to wiggle while working will help my students to remain on task while allowing themselves to move freely but remain in their seats.
This wobble flex seating will give my autistic students the freedom needed to bounce, roll and "wobble" as they work and will allow them to keep their sensory sensitivity in control and continue to work on assignments and remain in control of their environment.
