Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves students grades Kinder-5th. 50% of the population start kindergarten speaking Spanish only while the other 50% speak only English. Our school creates a dual language learning environment for students to learn both English and Spanish.
The students are our school are energetic and enthusiastic about learning.
They are kind hearted and often try to help each other whenever they can. I am the counselor at this public school of choice. The students whom I work with most tend to struggle with attention, focus, and staying on task. All year, I run groups to try and work with these students to improve their capabilities in learning.
My Project
Balance balls and chair bands are recognized as successful tools to help students improve their focus and concentration in the classroom. I am the counselor and teach several small groups during the day. I also teach each classroom monthly. These items are being requested to assist the students with sitting and actually focusing on the instruction or lessons being presented.
Often times the students who are referred to my small groups struggle to implement certain skills such as; blurting out without raising their hand, crying in class because they worry too much, not being able to stay in class because of anxiety, and making good choices.
Teaching resources are being requested to help me meet the needs of the smaller groups and classrooms that I work with. In my school district, counselors have to create their own curriculum but are not provided with any resources to make it happen. I am requesting these resources to help provide effective lessons and teach the children how to be successful at school.
