Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of my students don't believe they have what it takes. Some of my girls believe science, math and engineering are for the boys. This year, my goal is to change their mindset. I want all of my students to be confident. I want my girls to know that they are scientists, mathematicians and engineers. I want my students receiving special services to believe in their futures.
My students live in the desert and many have never traveled beyond "the sand curtain." They are inquisitive and fun loving.
Many of my students receive Special Education services for things like Autism, Asperger's ADD and ADHD. They are passionate to know how things work and why phenomena happen. I hope that many will be the first in their families to go to college someday, or the first in their family who studies sciences at the collegiate level.
My Project
At my site our students who receive special education services are mainstreamed into the classrooms. I am blessed to have all of our 7th grade students in my language arts and science classes. These flexible seating furntiture components will make a huge difference in allowing their bodies to move, so their brains can focus on learning, not on their need to wiggle. Tons of research shows that some kids just need to be moving to soak in knowledge and stay on task. Currently I have no flexible seating options! With these standing tables and balls, six stations can be set up on a rotation or as needed basis. Please help me make the best learning environment possible for our kids.
