My Students

After sitting in a classroom for a week long Spanish course, I realized how uncomfortable and fatiguing it is to sit at a traditional student desk. I believe that traditional school furniture is obsolete and that we must reinvent classroom furniture.

My students are very wiggly, and they like to move a lot!

We are located in a rural area in Idaho, so we're used to spending a lot of time outdoors. Our state is ranked one of the lowest in per pupil spending, so we operate on a shoestring budget. We have a diverse population of families including about 25% Hispanic, farm families, and many families who have moved here from all over the country for the natural beauty.

My Project

I am requesting 1 Hokki stool for the classroom. The Hokki stool is an ergonomic stool that transforms stationary sitting into an activity, ideal for active sitting environments. The convex base allows for movement in all directions, which promotes student focus. The stools allow kids to wiggle while they work. They also promote core body strength and good posture because you can not slouch on these stools.

Hokki Stools allow kids to move while they're learning.

Research has shown that body movement increases focus and brain activity, so the stools can actually promote learning. We have two of these stools already, and I have actually seen how well they work. Students beg to use them. My dream is to have a stool for every child in my class.
