Help me give my students K'Motion stools, Movin' Sit Jr., and a cushion to sit on during small group instruction (math, reading, spelling, and writing) while allowing for movement to aid in focusing on the task at hand.
Second graders love being creative, working together, and playing while learning. My students are part of a rural Title I school district, with a majority receiving free and reduced-price lunches. Many of my students find school a safe place and have positive experiences here that help prepare them for life as an adult.
I want my classroom to foster a love of learning and integrate problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity while having an opportunity to learn in a space that is best for their individual learning styles.
There is a wide range of learners in my class, including gifted students, students with physical and mental learning difficulties, adopted students, students receiving speech and languages services, and more. Every student in every school should be a safe, exciting, learning environment and flexible seating provides this.
My Project
This is my third year implementing flexible seating in my classroom. I recently purchased a flower-shape table, using personal funds, to use for small group instruction instead of the carpet on the floor. While the need for the table was imperative to the many groups that I instruct during the day, more importantly, is the place the students will place their bodies at the table...seating!
I'm asking for K'Motion stools so that students can still move during small group instruction for math, reading, spelling, and writing.
Being able to move helps improve focus and helps students stay as still as possible while learning. They are padded to prevent slipping and are lightweight so they can also be carried and used in other parts of the classroom as needed.
The other two materials requested will also aid those who need to "wiggle" while they work and learn on the floor or carpet areas. The inflatable cushions promote good posture and help those with characteristics of ADHD or Sensory Integration Dysfunction.
