Wiggle While We Work

My Students

My students come from low income families that are working hard to provide for their children. and want better opportunities for them. I work hard to create a team with all my parents but know their time and funds are limited. I also work to build relationships with each student and find their interest and strengths.

My students are below grade level but by using researched based strategies in our small groups, we can close the gap of where they are and where they should be!

I use small groups and work stations to create an environment where students can learn at their reading level and transfer the skills to on grade level text for success. Students meet with me to work on reading strategies and comprehension, independent reading where they practice on their own, and then a writing area to express their feelings and ideas. With the focus on teaching to their level and their strengths students have grown 1 and 1/2 -3 grade levels in their reading ability.

My Project

These wiggle chairs will be placed at work stations throughout the room. When students are not able to sit still they will be able to give a signal to move to the wiggle work station.

Students that are too energetic to sit still or when their movement is a distraction to those around them will have a place to go and wiggle while they work.

Their motion will be contained to their space and not upset them or those around them.

The ability to have a safe space to move and work will keep them from becoming unfocused and a distraction.
