My students come to school each day eager for what we will do that day while still chatting away to their friends. They are happy and full of energy. They like to move around the room, they love to read especially to each other, they love exploring math and science, and thrive on positive attention.
We are in a rural school district with a forty percent poverty level.
Most of my students have been in this building since pre-kindergarten. They are great kids with your normal amount of enthusiasm and interest and have a great sense of humor. They display a love of books and reading materials. They love the challenge of math rotations and the excitement of creativity. Being independent during our workstation time is important to them. They are warm, energizing, and enthusiastic.
My Project
In my classroom, I strive to help my children become successful learners. My 2nd graders are enthusiastic learners who have trouble focusing for long periods of time. To help, I use independent workstations throughout the day to help keep them on task. Some of my stations are at the worktable where they can use the wiggle chairs to complete their workstation.
My students desire to sit in our wiggle chairs to help them focus on their work.
Unfortunately, we only have two wiggle chairs in our classroom.
How can I fairly choose who gets to sit on one and who doesn't? This project for four more stools will help so that many more students get what they are asking for...the ability to wiggle while working.
Not only do they get to wiggle while they work, they are building core strength which will improve handwriting. If we had four more chairs, all students at the work table would be able to sit right down and get to work rather than worrying when it is their turn to have a wiggle chair.
Every day, students must discuss and decide whose turn it is to sit there. I would love to be able to tell them more chairs are on there way!
