My kindergarten students are bright and eager to learn. They work hard each day on reading, writing and developing number sense, but what they love most of all is creating.
My classroom is made up of 18 bright, inquisitive, and creative five, six and seven-year-olds.
Our school is located in a northern suburb of Indianapolis. My students can create amazing things when given the opportunity. We are in need of fun building and engineering materials to allow my students to do what they do best: learn through play.
My Project
This year I introduced flexible seating to my students and they love it! They love having the choice to pick where they sit each day. Currently I only have two wobble chairs in my classroom. Throughout the day I hear my kids say, "I wish we had more wobble chairs!" Having seating options such as wobble chairs has made huge difference in my student's engagement, focus and overall attitudes. Providing my students with flexible seating options gives them the opportunity to not only take ownership over their bodies and the space around them, but it also helps them take ownership over their learning. Although there are opportunities for movement and recess throughout the school day, this is not always enough for my active learners.
Their bodies want to be wiggling all the time.
These wobble chairs will help those students who need that little extra boost to burn off their excess energy. It would also allow them a choice for comfort and the ability to move as they learn. This will benefit all types of learners in my classroom.
