Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students who have special needs at a title one school. All of my students have a diagnosed disability that in some way impacts their learning. My students are behind in reading, writing, math, and behavioral/social skills. They have to work extra hard to learn new skills and often need skills taught in a different way. Despite their struggles, my kids still come in each day with smiles and hugs. They are some of the hardest workers I've ever met.
My Project
Many of my students are diagnosed with ADHD and struggle with sitting still. They try but just cannot do it for more than a couple of minutes at a time. They wiggle so much they often fall out of their chairs or fall off of stools. As a result, the stools in my classroom are beginning to crack and break. These wobble stools will allow them to wiggle as needed without falling, getting hurt and disrupting their own learning and the learning of the other students in the room. Being allowed to wiggle will also help them focus so they can improve on the skills they are struggling with.
