My students need alternative seating options such as Wobble chairs and ball seats. These students struggle to focus and stay on task. They are already struggling academically.
My school district is in a rural area of Texas. In the past twelve years, we've been hit by THREE hurricanes... Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Ike, and Hurricane Harvey. My students are primarily low socioeconomic homes. At present, we are displaced from our school and about 60% of our students were affected from the storm. It has been six months and many of us are STILL out of our homes. These kids don't have any part of their lives that are "normal".
My Project
The learning environment is very important in school!! Children no longer learn in the typical classroom setting with desks in rows and students in chairs that don't move. They need to be able to move while they work. With this project, students will have a variety of options for seating in order to increase learning. Wobble chairs and ball chairs with wheels will provide the variety to make that happen. Fluorescent lighting is also hard on children especially those who already struggle with learning. The lighting filters will make a more appealing setting for instruction as well. They will provide a calm, soothing environment for everyone.
