My students need flexible seating options such as balance ball chairs, core engagement stools, and bouncy fidget bands so that they are able to move and learn.
My students are energetic, curious, vibrant elementary students in Kindergarten-3rd grade. The students I work with have a variety of special needs. Each individual is unique and talented in his/her own ways, and all of them learn differently.
My students love to move and have difficulty sitting for long periods of time.
They often need reminders to sit in our classroom chairs safely because of their wiggles.
Through funding of this project, my unique learners will have access to a variety of seating options that meet their individual needs. Different seating choices will allow learning and movement to co-exist.
Mrs. McLain's class would LOVE to "wiggle while we work"!
My Project
Alternative seating is a way to incorporate movement with learning. Due to lack of movement, many students become restless, inattentive, and off task throughout the school day. Our bodies crave movement, and I believe that when students are given a variety of seating options, their minds and bodies will be ready to learn.
Research supports the benefits of alternative classroom seating; some of which include positive learning outcomes, an increase in overall health, and improved attention and behavior.
Providing a variety of seating options will help me better meet the needs of my students and will provide an outlet for their wiggling bodies!
