My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds. They experience hardships that some adults have yet to experience. They speak many different languages; English is not always their first language. They are a diverse group, most of whom live in poverty with limited resources. School is one safe place for them: a place to learn, explore, and be themselves.

The library allows my students to escape the hardships of their lives.

Adventures that they never dreamed possible become a close reality through reading.

My Project

My students need flexible seating in the library. Currently we only have standard chairs, and many of my students find it difficult to sit still, especially those with attention disabilities. They would benefit from this stool that would allow them to safely wobble about while reading their library books or working on group projects and assignments.

Being able to fidget while working has shown to increase student engagement in their learning.

Higher engagement means more time on task for my students and increased amounts of learning! With our short thirty five minutes per week per class in the library, I need all the help I can get to keep my students focused on their learning objectives!
