My students need a variety of seating choices to choose from while they are working. Wobble seats for floor or chair use and comfy floor seats would be an excellent addition to our classroom.
Our school is a Title 1 and Title 3 school. As a teacher in a low-income area, I have witnessed students who come from difficult situations at home, yet accomplish some amazing things at school.
In addition to 4th grade, I teach STEAM after school programs involving gardening, robotics, drones, and other STEAM activities.
Students in these programs are self-motivated, excited to learn, and experience more authentic learning than they do in the regular classroom. This experience has inspired me to look for every opportunity to spark a love of learning in my students by creating a safe, inviting, and comfortable environment in my classroom.
I have the honor to work with hardworking, amazing kids that have not always received the best of the best at home. As students from a high-poverty area, we often expect them to perform at a substandard level. I know from experience, if you raise the bar and help them feel valued and deserving, they will rise to your expectations every time.
My Project
Our classroom currently has balls, bean bags, and chairs to choose from when it is individual work time. Some students choose to sit on the floor and some bring a pillow from home so they can sit comfortably sit on the floor. Those pillows are often used to sit on hard classroom chairs.
Having Flex-Space Wobble Cushions that can be placed on hard chairs or be used on the floor would help students continue to move while they are seated.
Comfortable floor seating choices like the Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seat would allow students to sit on the hard floor without continuously readjusting while they work.
