My Students
This year I have 19 energetic 5th graders. They consist of writers, outside the box thinkers, strong, and independent learners, social and engaged peers.. in other words, a little bit of everything! I also teach math to another 19 students who always keep me on my toes with their thoughts, ideas and quirky sense of humor.
Despite the variety of the type of learners in my room, they all enjoy and appreciate options to help them become focused, independent, learners.
My Project
I have realized that even 10 and 11 year olds need to have some wiggle room in the classroom! This year I have played around with the idea of flexible seating in my classroom by adding some additional furniture into my classroom. It has been a great success and I am looking to add more choices for my students to use. They definitely love seating options more just the traditional desk and chair.. standing, laying, bouncing, you name it, they'll do it while learning.
This year's class will be a larger group so finding more flexible seating options that don't take up much space yet allow students to move is what this project is all about!
My project consists of some new alternative seating to fit different needs such as fidget bands for those who still want to use the traditional chair, and portable lap tables for those who want to sit on the floor.
