I teach third grade in a Title I school in central Florida. My school serves neighborhoods ranging from the wealthy to low income. Like many of the neighborhoods in Florida, my school serves children of a variety of races and ethnic backgrounds. My school has a large English as a Second Language (ESOL) population and has a unit that provides services for children in the district with autism. The school strives to have diverse classrooms.
In my classroom, I teach community and the importance of cherishing our differences.
My students are eager to come to school because they know it is a safe place to learn. They learn to stand up for what is right and know that all people are important.
My Project
I incorporate flexible seating options so I can differentiate for all of my learners. Each morning, the students choose their flexible seating for the day. My students with special needs prefer to use seating they can move in, and I prefer they do the wiggling in a seat meant to move so my students can stay safe.
I requested four wobble stools so that my students with special needs can move safely while learning.
These stools are meant for kids to wiggle in because the base is curved so the kids can safely move around. I requested four of them because I know it is something all of my students will want to use. The wobble stools will help me meet the needs of ALL of my students.
