Children are just that, children! They're squirmy, wriggly and full of energy and yet we as educators ask them each and every day to sit still and learn. Instead of participating in this constant battle between teacher and students over a simple task such as sitting, why not embrace or solve it?
Our students are a part of a close-knit, forward thinking community, where children love to learn and adults love to help teach.
This community and our students, are constantly on the forefront of the education world. Teachers, staff, and students alike are growing and experimenting with today's resources to ensure the highest quality of education! We want to challenge our children, and our children love to be challenged! They constantly ask for new and different classroom experiences, and they are truly engaged while new and exciting 21st century learning techniques.
My Project
This project is designed to provide students with a small piece of furniture that can help in 3 big ways! First, my students will enjoy sitting on it to maneuver and move from side to side, a movement that is actually exercise. Secondly, while students are rocking and moving, they are also paying attention and remaining seated at a table simultaneously, which will benefit students with ADD/ADHD and other students with extra energy. Finally, these new seats will also support our children with autism in the same way that larger exercise balls have in the past! By engaging student's bodies, we will also engage their minds.
These simple stools provide an outlet for kinesthetic movement, restlessness and extra energy while not distracting others-- and best yet, kids can't tip them over! They can be used all day every day at their desks, and, the great thing about these lightweight, movable chairs is that they can be carried and rearranged throughout the classroom
Just two stools can help our classroom support the beliefs that our students learn more when they are engaged.
Every child deserves the highest quality education, and by integrating these Hokki stools into our room, we can be sure to continue to develop effective instructional and behavioral interventions to ensure academic success for all students!
