Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, enthusiastic second graders. Though their lives outside of school often present them with challenges, they manage to come to school every day excited to learn, and I feel honored to be their teacher.
I am lucky enough to get to watch my students transform into readers, scientists, artists, and mathematicians over the course of the year.
My students have a wide variety of interests, ranging from basketball to birds and from dinosaurs to Darth Vader. They love to discover new information through reading, and whole class read aloud is one of our favorite times of day.
My Project
My seven and eight year old students are constantly on the move. They love to be active and it is difficult for them to have to sit for much of the day in a classroom. I am working to build up my classroom's offerings of flexible seating options and these stools will be a great addition. They will allow my students to sit for longer periods of time, developing stamina especially during independent reading and writing time, and move their bodies at the same time.
My incredible students deserve for our classroom environment to be as soothing as a spa.
My students come to school carrying the stresses and traumas of their outside lives, so when they step through the door, they should be met with a peaceful atmosphere in which they can focus on learning. The sound machine will be used to play calming background noise, like ocean waves or raindrops, while students are working. The essential oils will be used in the diffuser to fill our room with pleasant and relaxing smells.
