"I love this room" "I did it!" "Ms. McLaren look at this!" "Great job". These are just a fraction of quotes out of my second graders' mouths. They are an inspiring group of students that are working on becoming a team! They are the most supportive and understanding students I have ever met. They are always offering a kind word to one another encouraging each other to overcome obstacles in academic situations as well as in emotional situations.
"We are all stars." We are in Waterbury CT at an Arts Magnet School.
We have 12 girls and 10 boys in our class. We have students from Waterbury, Wolcott, Plymoth and Naugatuck in our class. We have a great diversity in our classroom and we are always learning from one another.
This year was my first year trying flexible seating in my room. WOW what a difference it made. I started with having 1/2 of the class using flexible seating each day, and they have loved it so much that we are looking to expand to a full class! The studies show that students who are able to move their bodies while working have a better focus and attention span. They are always so disappointed on their off days of flexible seating. The flexible seating may sometimes be stressful for me, but to see the work they produce and how happy they are while using it is beyond worth it. Funding this project will help my kiddos all have the chance to move and excel each and every day of the week!
