Wiggle, Giggle, & Learn:Flexibly Moving Forward Into First
My students need flexible seating options in order to accommodate their natural need to move and wiggle. Research shows that variance in student seating and increased movement opportunities supports the focus of students!
Our class family is just that- a family! We work together, learn together, and even attend each other's extra-curricular activities in support of each other. Our family is filled with students from a variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic status levels.
We have members of our class family who have special needs including dyslexia, ADHD, English Language Learners, autism, and mental health challenges; we are seeking support for flexible seating resources to make things easier for our kiddos who have needs that make them extra special!
We love our class family and just want to be able to support each other in the best way that we can!
I will be switching grade levels for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. I will be teaching 1st grade! I am very excited for this journey and the opportunity that I have to make a difference in the lives of "little learners" for years to come. Children naturally have a need for movement. Your support will help create a flexible seating learning environment so that my students can learn in a way that reflects the essence of who they are!
My Project
My 1st grade students need flexible seating options in order to accommodate their natural need to move and wiggle. Research shows that variance in student seating and increased movement opportunities support the focus of students!
Flexible seating will enable my first graders to have increased opportunities for movement, a way to release a bit of energy (and in turn increase focus levels), and provide opportunities to collaborate with each other.
Trust me- I may be creative, but my goal in this project is not to "find cute things" in order to make my classroom "Pinterest-Perfect". These resources will truly allow me to support the needs of my students. I have utilized flexible seating with my class of 4th grade students this year and have witnessed/experienced the benefits first-hand. Increased movement supports the focus of all learners and allows me to accommodate the critical needs of my students with special needs. Students gain responsibility as they must select a "work space" in the classroom in which they can focus and do their best work. Students build collaboration and leadership skills as they are able to work in a transformed environment that invites opportunities for working together. Students also become more independent, self-driven learners in this type of learning environment. In addition, students are also more apt to sharing, which helps establish a very strong "class family".
Children naturally have a need for movement. Your support will help create a flexible seating learning environment so that my students can learn in a way that reflects the essence of who they are! Please support me in creating a classroom environment that will allow my first graders to wiggle, giggle, and learn!
