I have an amazing class of 25 fourth graders, who all have their own individual personalities and talents. As a class we are a family and spend our day working together to build our knowledge, while developing a variety of different skills.
The students know that their brain is a muscle that continues to grow as they persevere.
This hard work comes with mistakes in order to find success.
Throughout the year, I work with each fourth grade class getting to know each student. This means that one hundred students are learning in my classroom throughout the year. My goal as a teacher is to build a safe and comfortable learning environment where each student can succeed.
My Project
As fourth graders, their work gets more challenging and they are in their seats more often. Flexible seating will allow my students to be comfortable as they learn. It is much harder for students to focus when they are sitting still for long periods of time. They cannot learn if they are not able to pay attention. I have had the opportunity to borrow some fidget bands and noise blocking headphones. It has had a huge positive impact for students who struggle to stay seated and on task.
When students have the option to pick their seating, they are able to make choices that benefit their ability to learn.
My students have the opportunity to work anywhere during independent and group work. Without flexible seating, most students end up working on the floor.
Flexible seating is proven to bring higher academic success and less behavior issues. Having wobble seats, cushions, and balance balls will provide a comfortable place for students to accomplish their goals!
