My Students

I am second grade teacher in a dual-language immersion class which includes native Spanish students and native English students. The majority of students come from low-income households in which they struggle to have their basic needs met on a daily basis. These struggles can cause them to have a great amount of stress, which then makes it hard for them to cope with some school situations.

Despite these hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.

They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can. My students love to read books, write their own stories, as well as share their ideas and connections. My students are full of energy and love to learn through exploration.

My Project

Second graders are full of ideas, questions, and energy. Often my students struggle to stay focused on the task at hand, due to their increase energy. Whether we are learning during whole group instruction or we are working independent, many distractions present themselves to divert us from our goal. With a wiggle seat, students who are distracted by their need to fidget and wiggle will be able to fully focus on their learning. As a result, other students will also be able to focus on the task at hand. Overall, the classroom will become a quiet, calm, and focused classroom where great levels of learning will take place.
