I am a Title I Reading Specialist! My students are striving readers who want to become stronger readers and writers. These students come from backgrounds where day to day 'life" takes over and literacy is not always a priority. Our school is 79% free-reduced-price lunch and many students are being raised by their grandparents or other family members. They look to myself and their classroom teachers to be those positive educational role models in their life.
Students who are supported and shown the superpowers of reading will quickly embrace it and soar!
My students do just this! They diligently use the skills and strategies modeled and strive to do their very best. They take great pride in their growth as they too can see that power unfold before their very eyes.
My Project
As a Reading Specialist, I serve students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The varying ages and sizes of my students makes using chairs at our reading table a challenge as they are either too big or too small. In addition, my classroom has carpet which makes it difficult for chairs to scoot in and out. I also serve up to 6 students at a time and cannot fit 6 chairs around my reading table.
My students would love these Wobble chairs so they can freely wiggle and wobble as they read and grow as thriving readers.
Each year I purchase metal stools that I hope will last all year. They are thin metal and the legs bend extremely easily. Despite my continuous effort to remind the students to stay on their bottoms, sit still, and not lean back on the stools, some students just can’t help themselves and wiggle and move as they read. This causes the legs of the stools to bend and break. My "stools" seem to have a problem with my wiggle readers. I, however, do not mind their wiggles as long as they are reading and learning. These Wobble chairs would be the perfect solution!
