My students are a group of 20 energetic second graders who love to wiggle and move around. We are from a Title One school that lacks the funding needed to help our students achieve at their highest potential. Having more options within my classroom will help foster a more trauma sensitive classroom by focusing on their needs.
My students strive to do their best every day while finding their freedom on what seating style is the best for them.
The majority of our day is spent doing small group work where we are moving from spot to spot. My students learn best on the move or in a spot chosen by themselves.
My Project
By providing flexible seating options within my classroom, I am allowing my students to explore the freedom of making their own decisions through seating. They feel more comfortable learning when they are able to take control over their choices. We are constantly moving around the room to engage in different stations in both math and language arts. My floor is tile, very cold making them just want to sit at their desk instead of moving around on the floor. Being able to use floor sofas, balance balls, and wobble chairs my student's stations will flow more effectively.
To have more options of seating within my classroom, would make a huge difference on students' ability to focus and complete tasks.
I see an incredible difference between desk work engagement and flexible seating engagement. We can't wait to spend our days engaging in group tasks all over our classroom as opposed to only in our desks.
