This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an integrated co-teaching classroom in the Bronx with 26 kindergarten students, each with unique strengths and challenges.
The 26 sprouts in our classroom have begun to blossom!
You can see and hear these great minds blooming as they begin to realize those squiggles on the page are words and that they can read them!
In our classroom, we strive to create a caring and safe learning environment where all students feel confident to take risks and grow as learners. We meet the needs of our diverse population by emphasizing compassion and respect for all.
My Project
There has been a great amount of research into flexible seating and how it can improve students' focus during the school day. Kindergarten classrooms have become very academic and students are asked to sit in their seats more than ever. This is very difficult for many of my students.
They have a hard time sitting still and these wobble chairs will help them to stay in place, while allowing them to move around.
We have several different kinds of seating in our classroom at the moment, such as scoop rockers for the carpet area, and we have seen improvement almost immediately in students ability to attend to the lesson.
These wobble chairs will really help my wiggly students maintain the focus they need to achieve success.
