My team teacher and I teach a group of 50 happy, energetic, and kind 2nd graders. They come from all different backgrounds and home situations. Some of them have been up for hours before they get to school and some have just woken up. As soon as they walk through the doors of our wonderful school they are ready to do their best to be great learners. They work hard every day to become better readers, writers, and thinkers.
These adorable 7 and 8 year olds need to move as much as possible and we are constantly trying to find ways to help them get their wiggles out.
We love to do brain breaks, stretching, and breathing exercises whenever we get a chance. Moving around the room and finding good places to work is always encouraged in our classroom so that they can learn in a space where they are comfortable. They are truly a delightful group and we want them to have every resource possible to be focused learners.
My Project
We would like to replace the stools around our teaching tables with wobble stools so that students can move their bodies while we are teaching them in small groups. They love the height of the stools, but are constantly moving them and we worry that they will tip and hurt themselves. We are lucky enough to have some wobble stools in our media center and have been fortunate enough to receive some through DonorsChoose previously and the students love them. We would like just a couple more so that they can be used more consistently by all students. They are able to sit and focus better on their work when they can move their bodies. If they are able to get their wiggles out by moving safely on their wobble stools, we know their brains will be ready to learn and be great 2nd graders!
