As I get ready to begin another school year, I am faced with a class of active, wiggly students. I believe that students need the freedom to move as they learn.
My lively third-graders live in a small rural town in Maine.
Our school of Pre-K through grade 5 students is home to 290 kids. We are a very economically disadvantaged area,, with over 85% of our students receiving free or reduced lunches. As I get ready to start a new school year, my list is filled with active boys that need the ability to move, during the day, as they learn.
My Project
As my students use the requested books to work on their reading skills, I want them to focus on just that - reading. Students should be able to move their bodies as they work and read. We all need movement throughout the day, and asking students to remain seated and motionless is not realistic.
These Kore Active Wobble Chairs will allow students to get their wiggles out.
Focusing in school can be difficult for some students.
However, if given the opportunity to wiggle and move, it will be one less thing for them to try to keep in check. Getting the wiggles out will help us learn better.
