Mrs. Ream from Chesapeake VA is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Wobble Chairs because many that come to me in need of remediation suffer from the inability to sit still which cause them to lack focus.

My students are Kindergarten and 1st graders working hard to catch-up and keep-up with their peers in the very critical area of reading. Most live in low-income public housing and come to school with so many odds already against them. They live in poverty, where even their very basic of needs go unmet. They arrive to school for the first time with very little, if any, exposure to the basic foundational skills that students from non-Title I Schools experience. They often do not know their own names, let alone basic letters, colors, and shapes. It can also be extremely difficult to keep students focused and engaged due to these and many other environmental factors.
Most of my K-1 students come to me for small group remediation in reading because they lack the focus necessary to be successful in a general education setting. These students are often unable to sit down in a hard classroom chair and listen to instruction in a small group because they are fidgety or wanting to stand up. Many times this causes a distraction to other students around and then causes the student who is unable to focus to shut down and become disengaged. With the wobble chairs, when they come to my classroom for additional reading support, they will be able to move around, as needed, and have the stimulation necessary to keep them focused yet not distract others or themselves any further. My students will remain engaged in the lesson and I will be able to help them be successful in the area of reading and writing.
