Hello, I teach 3rd Grade Reading at Burgaw Elementary School. We are a Title 1 school and we have approximately 80% free and reduced lunch students. Most of my students come to class without a pencil and without paper. A lot of my students do not get help at home with their homework. Parents are not reading to their children and they are not making their children read. As you know, the End of Grade test is rapidly approaching and I have students in my room that do not speak English or understand English. I have students in my room that are either on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or a 5th grade reading level. I do not have a teacher assistant in here with me, so it is hard to teach with so many different leveled students. This is my fourth year teaching, but my first year at Burgaw Elem. I love it here and I want to do a good job teaching my kids. I would love to have a Reading Comprehension Learning Center. I would use this for a small group center, so I could work with a small group on something else. Also, I would like to have some books on tape, so that could be another center. I really appreciate you taking time and reading my proposal. I would love to have anything that has to do with reading. With the two items that I have asked for, I know my students have a hard time understanding non-fiction stories and I know books on tape help with intonation and fluency. Thank you again. Kristen
