My students are curious, self-engaging, and independent thinkers. They’re learning about who they are as students and little humans in this great big world! Becoming community citizens with a global perspective finds focus in becoming our best!
My students are also at a transitional age in that they are coming from an elementary school and transitioning into a more mature level of academics.
They are sometimes caught between a world that asks them to grow up and being able to just be a kid.
I specifically chose adjustable wobble chairs. In George Couros's "8 Things to Look for in Today's Classroom," the first is Choice and Voice. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. This is where I feel it will make a difference!
Experts say that giving students choices about their physical classroom space teaches them higher-order thinking skills.
Outside the windows of our classroom is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices. How can we expect our student to solve problems and make choices independently if we constantly solve their problems and make their choices for them?
