This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 5th graders on the brink of discovering their true potential. Even though our school is in a high poverty area and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, we keep our academic standards high.
Many of my students have experienced traumatic, life altering events.
Some live in very difficult circumstances that make it challenging to make it to school every day. Our classroom is a 'safe place' where we can leave everything else at the door and focus on learning.
My Project
As 5th graders my students learn best with options about how they learn. These flexible seating choices will be used all day every day by students who need a little 'wiggle' room.
These seats will allow students to move in a way that is not disruptive to others and allow them to focus on learning.
We will use them during small group time as well whole group instruction, for students who require that extra chance to wiggle and move. Giving students a choice about their learning environment offers them the chance to feel connected and valued as part of the classroom community.
