Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second grade classroom is a place for inquiry and questioning. My students work hard everyday, pushing themselves to become internationally minded citizens, that live to be lifelong learners.
We are an International Baccalaureate school, in a low-income suburban area.
Some of my students are faced with challenges that many cannot fathom, but them come to school enthusiastic to learn everyday. We have a high Hispanic population with other races in the minority.

My Project
Everything I do in my classroom, is based on research and best practices for my kids. Giving students the ability to have flexible seating can help burn more calories, use up excess energy, improve metabolism, increase motivation and engagement, create a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improve core strength and overall posture. All of these are linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
Currently, my students' version of flexible seating means they sprawl all over the floor to complete their work in their most effective learning environment.
I am requesting an assortment of yoga balls, wobble chairs, and stools for each of my 20 students. This way students can choose a form of seating that they can work most effectively on for the day. Each of these seating choices has been shown to improve academic focus.
