This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are incredible! My students are in kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hard-working, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with a disability. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. All of my students come from high poverty areas, and they all love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful, and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensure this.
My Project
For a school of almost 1,000 students, we only have two formalized education assessment kits. We test upwards of 75-100 students per year and run into extreme difficulties scheduling the use of two kits (up to 7 of us could need them at the exact same time). This project would allow us to have one kit per pod (elementary, middle school, and autism strand)and that would be really helpful!
These are the kits that we use in part to determine eligibility for special education services and to monitor progress of students on IEPs (Individualized Education Program).
Access to an additional kit with a WIAT III stimulus book, oral reading fluency book, word card, and pseudoword card will allow us to reach students more strategically within their schedules and will alleviate an extreme scheduling issue within our K-8 School.
