Technology is everywhere you look! Children (and adults) are constantly "plugged" into their electronics. Teachers cannot compete with these electronics so we must find ways to incorporate it into our classrooms to use for educational purposes.
The majority of the students in my school come from low income homes.
When surveyed, a large majority of the students indicate that they do not have computers and/or Internet access in their homes and those that do have access to these types of technology, do not always use them for learning purposes. This lack of access to digital educational opportunities creates a large achievement gap between our students that come from lower income families and those from middle/upper income families.
My Project
I am requesting funds to purchase an iPad mini with a Survivor case, a Survivor case for our one existing iPad, two stylus pens, and a pair of headphones. With the addition of these materials, my students will be able to rotate through literacy and math stations.
With only one iPad, it takes several days before each student has a chance to actually get to use the iPad in their stations.
The iPads have an added benefit over the computers for truly being a hands-on tool rather than using only a keyboard and mouse which can prove to be very difficult for little ones to maneuver.
